Jim Kweskin's Home

Jim Kweskin Residence, - 131 Huron Avenue

Jim Kweskin was the founder of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, one of the first jug bands formed during the 1950s-60s folk revival, which also consisted of Geoff and Maria Muldaur, Fritz Richmond, and Mel Lyman. For a short time Lyman also lived with the Kweskin family at 131 Huron, a familial pattern that was routine at the time. Musicians played, joked, ate and lived with one another. Their children grew up together and sometimes Club 47 became a make-shift day-care center, as club staff and musicians would watch over whomever’s children were there that day. This atmosphere of a tight-knit yet open community was central to the Cambridge folk scene.
